crayola crayon and watercolor technique

Want to try a fun technique... one that may remind you of older memories made in preschool art class? Well, here ya go!

This technique is very simple.... Use a white crayon to create a design on lightly colored (white is best) cardstock. You can create tons of designs... either doodle (like I did on my page here), Use a template, color in empty spaces left from chipboard sets with white crayon onto your page. Just try and remember where you colored as it's nearly impossible to see the white crayon on the white cardstock.

Then! Get out the watercolors and lightly (you don't want to get your cardstock too damp as it will curl and bend out of shape... not that I learned that the hard way or anything! wink!) paint over the areas you colored on. You'll end up with cardstock that's colored except for the spots you colored on! Talk about a fun way to make unique backgrounds for your pages or a fun embellishment!

Reveal Day: What a Gallery!

Wow! What an unbelievably gorgeous gallery was revealed today! No surprise that the Tulip Girls rocked this kit! Check it out here. Charity knocked me over and blew my mind with this amazing layout! Such a clever use of the exclusive Label Tulip stamp. I adore it!


Our fabulous guest TG, Maggie Holmes rocked out on this layout. I couldn't figure out what those cool white journaling shapes were at first, but then I figured it out! They're a very cool partially masked version of the other exclusive LT stamp! Genius!!


I *heart* this layout by Leslie for so many reasons, but mostly because the design is just so, so beautiful. I adore that big pink brackety thing where the title is. Fantastic!


First of all, this is the cutest photo I have ever seen. Add to it the fact that Holly used packaging (this month's challenge) in such a clever way...and wow!!! Awesome layout!

Alexis just makes everything look so good. I love the design of this page and can't get over the brilliant hand cutting of that little girl. What a fantastic choice!!

This summer-y page from Amanda just makes me smile! And I *adore* how she cut apart the flower! Totally brilliant!

March Sneak Peeking!

I've got some sneak peeks for you from this month's main kit! This is an absolutely fantastic kit! Cathy has done a seriously amazing job. Check it out for yourself...






Luscious colors! Fabulous products (including my all time favorite chipboard letters, and just when I said I was through with alphas)! And I made five layouts (with lots of leftovers) from just the main kit alone! Wow! I can't wait for the reveal on the 15th...!

This week, our team really took some time to sit down and pour through all of the beautiful projects that our members created. And, here are some of our favorites:



Alexis absolutely fell in love with this awesome layout from mollee! Alexis adored the woodgrain background and the way the page was divided up. The placement of the journaling with the sillouttes is perfection, as well! She also loves that mollee documented such a fun relationship between father and daughter!



This page by mia92578 was one of Charity's favorites. She loved how Mia painted those cool squares, did the stitching and designed the cool handmade flower!



AnnaMarie's page really caught Leslie's eye. Leslie loved the chipboard pieces from the kit were used and how the the paint framed the layout.



Amanda chose this page by sophiasoh. Amanda adored the torn paper strips, the yummy buttons, and the clever way sophiasoh did the title. So cute!



My personal favorite was this page by Leah. The black and white with small touches of red and green... simple and so beautiful! I love the wings, lollipop flowers and black flowers running up the edge of the photo!

Our members are so amazing! And, we just wanted to take some time out to show some them appreciation. Thank you all for sharing your fabulous pages and projects with us! Keep that eye candy coming!

Quick Card Tutorial

Here's a quick card tutorial using the Label Tulip February Kit (and just in time for Valentine's Day!):

Supplies:

• Collage Press Journaling Card
• Black Card Blank (or you can just fold a piece of cardstock in half)
• Glimmer Mist (Oriental Poppy)
• Patterned Paper Scrap (I used a scrap of Amy Butler/K&Co. paper)
• Felt from Creative Imaginations
• Sakura Pigma Micron
• Craft Knife
• Glass Mat
• Scissors
• Adhesive
• Pencil
• White Cardstock
• Foam Adhesive
• Zig 2-way glue pen
• Glitter

STEP ONE: Create Your Stencil

Draw a collection of six hearts on a piece of white cardstock. Using your craft knife, cut out the hearts.

Now you have your stencil.

STEP TWO: Create Your Background

Starting from a gentle middle distance, spray a light coating of the Glimmer Mist onto the Collage Press Journaling Card, through the stencil.

Let it dry. Once dry, adhere it to your card blank.

STEP THREE: Add Your Heart

Cut a heart from a scrap of patterned paper. Decorate it using your Zig 2-way glue pen and then immediately cover it in glitter. Shake off the excess glitter.

Adhere it to your card using foam adhesive.

STEP FOUR: Create Your Felt Circles

Cut five circles of varying sizes from the felt. Using a Sakura Pigma Micron, "inline" the circles.

Adhere the circles to your card, being sure to go over the edges of the Journaling Card.

STEP FIVE: Add Your Sentiment

Using your Sakura Pigma Micron, write in your sentiment.

And you're done! Here's the finished card:

Winner, winner chicken dinner!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who shared their first pages with us! It was so much fun to see what everyone's starting point was, and I enjoyed looking at all of them.

And, now it's time to pick a winner to receive this little set of new CHA goodies:



So, I threw all the names of everyone that participated into a hat, and asked my DD to pick a name. "I pick Cassidy, Mom. I like that name." She was so upset when she found out she wasn't able to just pick her favorite name out of thin air and, instead, had to draw one from a hat. LOL! Once I finally coaxed her into drawing, she pulled out scrap-myself-silly, who shared this layout with us:

First tries...

I can remember it like it was yesterday. Sitting at my desk, a couple of sheets of patterned paper and cardstock, a few packages of embellishments, some paint, glue, an eyelet setter, and a picture of my daughter's first visit to Santa Claus at my side. It was before I became totally addicted to this hobby... before my hobby required its own room in my house. That little stack on the side of my desk was just about all of the scrapbooking supplies I had to my name. And, to be honest, at that time, I wasn't really sure I would even like this hobby.

A few of my stamping and altered book friends kept trying to convince me to try scrapbooking. But, all I could picture when the word "scrapbooking" came to mind were cheesy die cuts, silly stickers, and some photos that were punched into various shapes. Then, one day, I wandered into a scrapbooking store full of more product than I could possibly imagine. It wasn't just die cuts, stickers, and construction paper. There was a whole world of possibilities! It was all I could do not to buy one of everything in the store. But, I carefully selected a few packages of odds and ends, some papers that I liked, and off I went.

Those supplies sat in my plastic Iris cart for months. Every time I pulled out a sheet of 12x12 paper, I was totally overwhelmed. Where would I begin? That square foot of space seemed nearly impossible to fill. I was totally intimidated. And, every time, I would just end up putting my supplies back in the drawer... completely unused.

Then, we moved... all the way from Alaska to Texas. And, we drove that whole way. Before we left, I stocked up on a few scrapbooking magazines, and devoured each and every one of them throughout that trip. I was left feeling completely inspired! As soon as we got settled into our new house, I couldn't wait to get started on actually sticking something down on those expansive sheets of 12x12 paper. With ideas spinning all around in my head, I just sat down one day and did it. I made my first page. And, I loved it! That was the start of my addiction, and I've never looked back since.

So, I thought it would be fun if we all shared our first pages. I'll show you mine... if you show me yours. Deal? Deal. Don't be shy. We all had to start somewhere.
